Well Maintenance

Once your well is operational, it will require little maintenance. You must keep a close eye on any changes (appearance, taste, smell) in the water quality. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, contact us so we can analyze the situation. We recommend that the following be checked occasionally.

  • The pitless adaptor is tightly in place and leak free.
  • The vent is unobstructed
  • The surrounding surface water flows opposite to the well
  • There is no standing water nearby
  • There is no residue floating in the well
  • There are no cracks in the steel casing that could allow for surface water or residue to enter the well.
  • There are no dead leaves or animals near the well

Twice a year, (in the Spring after the snow melts and in the Fall), we recommend that you perform a chlorination, in order to avoid bacteria to development  in the water.  You can either do it yourself by following the chlorination steps,or get one of our technicians to do it for you.

There are a few precautions to observe when using your well. For instance, you must be familiar with the flow, especially when filling up a swimming pool.  You must be even more careful if your well has a weak flow (under 2 GPM).  If, by accident, you emptied out the well completely, you could damage both the pump and the tank.  It is possible to increase the flow of a well by Hydrofracturation.
