Soldier piling is used to brace excavation in limited access areas or when adjacent structures or infrastructure eliminate the possibility of an open cut.
Large diameter down hole hammers are used to advance a hole into the soil or rock below the proposed excavation to accommodate an H-Beam which is then concreted into the socket below the excavation.
The excavation can then proceed in steps. Wooden boards are then placed between the H-Beams to transfer the lateral load of the excavated face to the H-Beams. The H-Beams can be designed to support the lateral load through the embedded length by acting as a cantilever. If additional support is required tie-back anchors can be used.
